WordPress / Design, development & operations

A considered design.
A site you can keep using.

I build WordPress sites with a clear visual identity, useful content structures, and an editing experience that makes sense after the handoff. The work includes the theme, the PHP behind the content, and the hosting that keeps it running.

01 / Independent portfolio project

Alder & Tide

A fictional architecture studio, built as a complete WordPress site. Six design studies, three service pages, and a visual language shaped by coastal light, timber, and generous typography.

The design problem

Architecture needs room for imagery, but a project page also has work to do. It should explain the brief, the setting, the materials, and the decisions behind a design. I developed a restrained editorial system that gives both the image and the story a clear place.

The WordPress implementation

A custom block theme supplies the templates, typography, palette, and reusable patterns. A separate PHP plugin owns the project content type, service taxonomy, and structured facts. Editors work in WordPress; changing a project does not require rebuilding a page in code.

The brand, architecture stories, and AI-generated imagery are portfolio concepts, not client commissions. The inquiry form demonstrates validation and feedback without sending or storing a message. The demo is public to view and requests exclusion from search indexes; administrator access remains restricted.

What goes into the build

Design that carries through

Shared theme.json tokens keep the public site and editor aligned. Self-hosted fonts, responsive images, and a small amount of JavaScript support the design without a page-builder dependency.

Content with a structure

Project settings, materials, services, and photographs have defined places. Core blocks and patterns handle the narrative; content remains separate from its presentation.

Checks against the working site

The completed Alder release was checked across 17 routes at phone, tablet, and desktop widths, with keyboard and form checks, real editor validation, and automated accessibility checks. Those checks are evidence of tested behavior, not a blanket accessibility certification.

Hosting with a recovery path

Separate site users and databases, restricted administration, two-factor login, HTTPS, and encrypted off-host backups support the demos. Releases preserve the previous code, and restoration is tested in isolation.

Experience behind the examples

WordPress as part of running a business

At Harvest Sun Solar, I built and ran the company WordPress website as part of a broader technology role. That work connected the website to the practical concerns around it: hosting, domains, email, local search, and the systems the business used to handle inquiries.

This collection shows my current approach to WordPress. Alder is an independent design and development example. Historical work is described as experience, with no invented client testimonials or before-and-after performance claims.
